The Brief:

To take a food or drink product and consider how packaging can play a part to enhance the occasion.

My Solution:

I took on the food product McVities biscuits. I've taken on inspiration from existing multi packs like the family circle (a McVities family pack of biscuits) and have adapted the idea of a multi pack of biscuits in to a game that those eating the biscuits can play. The game Bixionary is a spin on the existing board game, Pictionary. Instead of drawing with a pen and paper, the players ice biscuits. I used McVities existing logo and colour pallet in my designs to keep the branding consistent.

The packaging for this multi pack folds down and becomes the board game making the packaging multi functional and part of the game.It can then fold back up in to the box to be stored away. The inner tray which holds the biscuits and other game related items comes out of the box, which lets the outer box fold down.

The Game

The game follows the existing game Pictionary but with a slight twist. The teams chosen biscuit will act as counters. The players can choose to decorate the counter if they would like with the icing pens that come with the board game. Inside the box there is three types of biscuits, Hobnobs, Rich Tea and Digestives (the colour pallet inspiration has been taken from these three branding). There is also the main playing cards plus the bonus challenge cards that players can wish to play. There is also a timer and then three icing pens.

Players work their way down the board as they would in normal Pictionary if they land on the spaces the player has to pick that category on the card during the round. The categories are P for person, A for animal, O for object and AC for action. If a player lands on the wheat symbol they can choose any category for the round. If players chooses to play the bonus challenge cards for the game, they will pick up the wheat card which gives them an advantage or a disadvantage depending on the card chosen. It can be as simple as miss or a go, or go forward 2 spaces or can challenge the player to ice the biscuit with their opposite drawing hand.
